HE LIVES IN ME

The disciples of Jesus must be united with hum ad branches are to a tree for continuous nourishment. In as much as we abide with him, we will bear much fruit, because he is the very source of life and without him, we can do absolutely nothing. Even in the world today we say that a father lives in the son when the son displays the attributes of the dad, and they do things in common, more especially when the father must have departed this world, peoples still see the good deeds of the father being displayed by the son and they will come to the conclusion that though the dad is dead, but he still lives in the son. That is exactly how the followers of Christ should be. Christ must live in us for the continuation of his work on earth.

The criteria of living united with Christ is very clear: we live united in him by keeping God’s word continually in our mind and making it guide of our actions; by cultivating  and maintaining a prayer life; by avoiding all inclinations to sin and being open to the Holy spirit. Above all we abide in Christ by being united with one another as a community of love. Our love for one another has to be genuine by being the channel of nourishment that revives the spirits, feed the less fortunate and lighten the burden of others. We should not be content in just seeking Christ, but to always abide in him. The difficulties we encounter in life is not sign of being cut out from Christ, but it is part of pruning to make us fit well in Christ.

If we continue to remain in Christ at all times whether good or bad we shall enjoy much peace and consolation. If we remain in him, we will find joy, not the artificial joy of material wealth but a joy that comes from the fulfillment of one’s potential, a kind of joy that will produce much fruit such as eliminating violence that abound in our world and to restore peace and justice in various nations.

We are all called to allow Christ live in us, so that each and every Christian can say with all boldness like St. Paul, “I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me” why can’t Christians show that Christ lives in them by transforming this world into a better place to live?
